Preparing For Scholarship Interviews
If your child has been asked to attend an interview for a scholarship at any school it means that they are a serious contender for the award. The interview usually means
that your child is one step closer to winning a scholarship (whether it be a full one or part there of). The bad news is that now they will need to undergo the nerve-wracking scrutiny of face-to-face communication with one or more interviewers. The reality is that the chance of securing the scholarship can be won or lost at this crucial stage of the process. If the thought of this makes your children’s palms moisten or if they get a sinking feeling in their stomach, they are not alone.
The best way to overcome the fear and anxiety associated with this interview process is to have an idea of what to expect and what may be asked. It is really important that you, as a parent or caregiver, invest the time to prepare your child for this. This is where we can help both you and your child make this a more comfortable and less-daunting experience. It can be the difference between success and failure.
Our principal educator has conducted numerous interviews at school and has helped our students succeed in winning a scholarship to some of NSW’s most prestigious independent schools.
We would be delighted to assist you and your child in preparing for the all-important scholarship interview. The program will usually consist of two one-hour sessions. The first hour will be one-on-one with your child; during the second hour the parents/caregivers are asked to come in and be part of the process. Then you will be able to follow through with some home practice. During the sessions we will cover the types of questions your child may be asked, and what the interviewers are possibly looking for in the responses. We will also cover other important areas such as presentation, communication skills and how to leave the right impression. This opportunity can give your child the edge needed to win that hotly-contended scholarship that they have worked so hard for.
